An Elgin with a Japanese movement? Watches in this "Sportsman" line from Elgin were assembled in the U.S. Virgin Islands using rebranded Seiko 66B movements under the Elgin subsidiary "Master Time Co. Ltd." Seiko was seeking to diversify and move into the worldwide movement business just as Elgin (and other U.S. manufacturers) were attempting to fight off a flood of inexpensive Swiss imports in the 1960s. Thus the "M-112" and its sibling movements were born.
